Volunteer

On Our Way Home is run completely by volunteers.  We have jobs and families and we all share a passion for the welfare of animals.  We understand that people are busy and it can be difficult to find the time to volunteer.  Thankfully there are many ways to help out and some of them take little time at all!  On Our Way Home truly appreciates all our volunteers and supporters.

Fostering

Foster Application CLICK HERE

On Our Way Home does not have a facility to house the animals we take in. Our foster homes are very important to our operation.  A foster family opens their home to our animals and provides them with a safe environment to live in while they wait for their furever home.  Any vet costs are paid for by the rescue.  The length of time an animal will need to stay in your home can not be determined.  It could be days, weeks or months.  Many people think they can not foster because they think it is too difficult to give the animal up once their furever home comes along.  Let me tell you,  seeing the joy and excitement from the families when they come to pick up their new family member makes it all worth it.

Foster Information
1. A foster home is responsible for caring for and positively training their foster animal. The rescue will cover all vet bills. If food is available we can offer some, but many fosters provide their own food for the animals.
2. There is NO time frame. You could have your foster animal for 2 hours, 2 weeks, 2 months or a year. We understand that things come up and your foster animal may have to be moved, but if you can not commit to at least a couple of months we would place animals in a home that can offer a longer term.
3.What if I want to keep my foster animal? Foster families can definitely apply to adopt their foster animal and they do get a bit of first dibs on them.
4.The foster family does not tell others if they can or can not have an animal. If your friend is interested in your foster animal, have them send in an application and put you down as a reference. All applications are board reviewed.
5. Please spay and neuter. Because OOWH promotes responsible pet ownership we prefer the other animals in foster homes to be spayed or neutered. If they are not please let us know the reason and all applications will be evaluated case by case.
6. All foster homes are home checked
7. Foster homes need to be located near one of our vets offices in Fort St John, Dawson Creek or Chetwynd..

Fundraising

A few times throughout the year we hold fundraisers at events in the community.  This years events included a BBQ at ZooFood and selling water at Canola Fest, The Airshow and the Moose FM Block Party.  Keep an eye on our events sections for upcoming fundraisers.

Raising awareness

This one is easy and takes very little time and effort. Simply share our adoptable animals, fundraisers and call for donations on social media.

Transport

The Peace Region is large, and many times animals or supplies need transport between Fort St John, Husdon Hope, Chetwynd, Dawson Creek and everywhere in between!  If you travel the area often and want to help please let us know!
