About us
On Our Way Home Animal Rescue is a volunteer run, foster based organization and a registered not-for profit society that has been operating since 2012 in the Peace Region. With the support of dedicated fosters and volunteers throughout Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, Hudson’s Hope, Chetwynd, and surrounding communities, we provide care, safety, and second chances to animals in need—including strays, owner surrenders, urgent medical cases, and animals facing unsafe or uncertain circumstances.
As a foster based organization, we rely on community support to ensure animals in our care have safe and comfortable temporary foster homes. One of the ongoing challenges we face is managing the cost of veterinary care for each animal. To ensure responsible rehoming, OOWH ensures that each animal that comes through the rescue receives its first vaccine, 1-2 dewormer treatments and we cover the cost of spay/neuter and tattoo when the animal is 6 months old - through one of our partner vets in Fort St. John, Dawson Creek or Chetwynd.
While we work to keep adoption fees accessible—particularly given the number of “free” pets in the Peace region and the need to promote responsible rehoming—these fees seldom cover the full cost of medical treatment and preparation for adoption. Community support helps us bridge this gap, allowing us to continue providing essential care and contribute to broader efforts to address pet overpopulation.
The rescue’s success is credited to the wonderful support from the community, foster families and dedicated volunteers. OOWH is always on the lookout for foster homes. The rescue can only take in animals if there are foster homes for them to go to. If you’re interested in becoming a foster home, please fill out a foster application.
